How to make it
1
Make the meat mixture
- Peel the onion and finely chop on a cutting board
- Wash the lettuce, drain, and tear by hand. Remove the stems from the cherry tomatoes and cut in half
- Put 4 tbsp panko and 2 tbsp milk in a bowl to moisten
- Add the ground meat, onion, 1 egg, 1/4 tsp salt and a pinch of pepper, and mix well by hand until sticky
- Divide into 2. Toss each lightly back and forth between your palms (5–6 times) to push out the air, and shape into rounds 2 cm thick. Press a small dent in the middle with your finger
- Wash your hands with dish soap right after touching the meat mixture
How to tell it's doneThe surface of the meat mixture is smooth with no cracks.
2
Cook the patties
- Heat 1/2 tbsp vegetable oil in a frying pan on medium heat and add the patties
- Cook 3 min, and when browned, turn over
- Add 3 tbsp water, put on the lid, and steam-cook on low heat for 8 min
- Take the patties out onto a plate. Lightly wipe the oil from the pan with a paper towel (leave the meat juices)
How to tell it's doneWhen you poke a bamboo skewer into the middle, clear juice comes out. If red juice comes out, put the lid on for 2 more min. Cut one open: no pink inside.
Be carefulThe oil splatters, so put the lid on right after adding the water.
3
Make the sauce
- In the same frying pan, add 3 tbsp ketchup, 2 tbsp Worcestershire sauce and 2 tbsp water
- Simmer 1 min while stirring, then move to a small bowl
How to tell it's doneIt bubbles and thickens a little.
Be carefulIt burns easily, so keep stirring.
4
Fry the eggs
- Wipe the frying pan clean with a paper towel, add 1 tsp vegetable oil and heat on medium-low heat
- Crack in 2 eggs, with space between them
- Put on the lid and cook 2–3 min
How to tell it's doneAll the egg white is set and white, with no clear parts. The top of the yolk turns slightly white. If you want the yolk firm too, cook 1–2 more min. If small children, older people or anyone feeling unwell will eat it, cook until the yolk is firm.
5
Arrange on a plate
- Put 200 g rice on each plate and top with a patty
- Pour the sauce from step 3 over the patty and top with a fried egg
- Add lettuce and cherry tomatoes on the side
ReadyThe rice, patty and fried egg are stacked.
