How to make it
1
Finely chop the vegetables
- Finely chop the onion (cut in half lengthwise, put cut side down, and chop finely)
- Peel the carrot, slice thinly, cut into thin strips, then chop from the end to finely chop
How to tell it's doneThe onion and carrot are both in about 3 mm bits.
2
Stir-fry vegetables and ground meat
- Put 1 tbsp oil and 1 tsp garlic in a frying pan and put on medium heat
- Add the onion and carrot and stir-fry 3–4 min until soft
- Add the ground meat and stir-fry 3–4 min, breaking it up finely with a spatula
How to tell it's doneThe ground meat has no red or pink parts, and it is crumbly and brown all over.
3
Simmer with tomatoes
- Add all the canned tomatoes (if whole, crush them with a spatula)
- Add 2 tbsp ketchup, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce, 1 tsp consommé granules, 1 tsp sugar, 1/3 tsp salt and a pinch of pepper, and mix
- Cook down 15 min on medium-low heat, stirring now and then. Be careful, it splatters
- Taste it, and if it tastes weak, add a pinch of salt
How to tell it's doneIt is no longer watery, and is thick enough that when you run a spatula across the bottom, you can see the bottom of the pan for a moment.
4
Boil the spaghetti
- While step 3 simmers, put 2 L water in a large pot, bring to a boil on high heat, and add 1 tbsp salt
- Add 200 g spaghetti, spreading it out. When it softens, push it all under the water with chopsticks and stir so it doesn't stick
- Turn to medium heat and boil for the time on the package. Drain in a colander
How to tell it's doneWhen you bite 1 strand, there is almost no white core in the middle.
Be carefulWhen pouring the water into the colander, the steam comes up at your face. Hold the pot with both hands and tip it slowly toward the sink.
5
Arrange on a plate
- Put the spaghetti on plates
- Pour the sauce from step 3 on top. Sprinkle grated parmesan cheese if you like
ReadyMix the sauce into the pasta as you eat.
