How to make it
1
Make the egg mix
- Crack 2 eggs into a bowl (or a large flat plate)
- Add 2 tbsp sugar and mix well with a whisk (or chopsticks), cutting through the egg whites
- Add 150 ml milk and mix more
How to tell it's doneNo lumps of egg white, and it is all the same light yellow.
Be carefulLeftover egg white turns into white streaks when you cook it. Keep the whisk tip on the bottom of the bowl and move it side to side to cut through.
2
Cut and soak the bread
- Cut each slice of bread in half on a cutting board (2 slices make 4 pieces)
- Lay the bread in a tray or flat plate and pour all of the egg mix from step 1 over it
- After 5 minutes, gently turn over with chopsticks and let sit 5 minutes more
How to tell it's doneWhen you press the bread lightly, it is soft and soaked to the center. Almost no liquid is left on the plate.
Be carefulThe bread gets soft and tears easily. To turn it, slide a spatula under it and flip gently.
3
Cook both sides
- Put 10 g butter in a frying pan over low heat, melt it and spread it around
- Lay in the bread, put the lid on, and cook on low heat for 3–4 minutes
- Turn over with a spatula, put the lid on, and cook 3–4 minutes more
How to tell it's doneGolden brown on both sides. When you press the center with a chopstick, it springs back softly and no raw egg mix oozes out.
Be carefulButter burns easily. Add the bread before the butter turns brown.
Be carefulIf egg mix comes out when you press the center, put the lid on and add 1 minute at a time on low heat. Cook the egg all the way through.
4
Arrange on a plate
- Put 2 pieces on each plate
- Pour on honey if you like
ReadyGolden brown outside, soft and moist inside when you cut it. Eat while hot.

The center is still dry breadSoaking time was short. Soak a full 5 minutes per side. If you are in a hurry, cut the bread into 4 smaller pieces so it soaks up faster.
White streaks on the surfaceThe egg white was not fully mixed in. In step 1, mix until you cannot see any lumps of egg white.
The bread fell apartYou picked up the soaked bread with chopsticks. Slide a spatula under it to move it.
